<Faking Devil's Advocate>

PC

2021

 Faking Devil’s Advocate is a multiplayer game about the tension created when an individual opposes the community’s opinion and the pressure on the minority. We live in a democratic society. However, it does not always verify our freedom of expression. Sometimes we are forced to choose an unwanted stance to strategically appear to belong to a particular community.

 Players of the game enter one server and have to position themselves between “agree” and “disagree” as each question appears. They are standing on unstable ground that works like a seesaw or scale. Inside this game, moving towards the left means agreeing with the question, and moving towards the right means disagreeing. One part of the game consist of 20 questions and 15 seconds is given to each question. If the ground is tilted to one side when the time runs out, the ground flips, and everyone falls into the void. Therefore, we sometimes have to move ourselves to an undesirable position to achieve the community’s goal. If you don’t want to move your stance, there is another way to alleviate the board’s angle while standing on the same spot. By hitting the “M” key on the keyboard, a player can use the “wearing mask” function. If players wear masks, their weight becomes zero. All the players characters look the same and only the player themselves can see if they are wearing a mask. When the player takes off the mask, their weight turns back to normal weight. However, every time the player wears a mask, his weight slightly decreases. If a player wears masks without moderation, player’s opinion will lose its weight.
